·         1) Synbiotics

·         HINEX ST Plus contains synbiotics which is a mixture of prebiotic (fructooligosaccharides, FOS) and probiotic (B. Coagulans). Prebiotics are digestion-resistant fibres (short-chain carbohydrates) that are selectively fermented by specific genera of colonic bacteria to produce metabolites, which helps modulate human gastrointestinal (GI) microbiota. Probiotics on the other hand are a type of good friendly live bacteria that help normalise the human GI microbiota composition. Synbiotics, when consumed in adequate amounts, confer health benefits to humans by improving the survival and activities of beneficial microorganisms in the GI tract which helps improve GI functions that include immunomodulatory, metabolic and resorptive. There is good evidence from clinical studies that administration of enteral nutrition containing synbiotics to people with critical illness improves GI functions, reduces infectious complications and systemic symptoms, shortens hospital stay as well as the need for antibiotic treatment.

·         HINEX ST Plus contains lycopene, vitamin C, vitamin E and selenium, all of which have antioxidant properties. Lycopene is a powerful antioxidant that may help protect lipoproteins and vascular cells from free radical-induced oxidant damage. Vitamin C is an electron donor and water-soluble antioxidant, vitamin E is a fat-soluble antioxidant that stops the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) formed when fat undergoes oxidation, whereas selenium helps increase the action of antioxidants (selenoproteins) for protection against oxidative stress initiated by ROS and reactive nitrogen species (NOS). Evidence from clinical studies is limited, however, suggestive of potential benefits of these antioxidants (especially lycopene) in the prevention and treatment of a range of conditions including hypertension and atherosclerosis, lung, oesophageal, genitourinary and colorectal cancers, cataract, and Parkinson's disease.

·         HINEX ST Plus comprises a blend of three high-quality proteins – namely, casein, whey protein isolate and soy protein isolate, which includes essential and non-essential amino acids necessary for body’s growth and repair works and maintenance of good health.
